Orillia Pearch Festival
Simcoe.com
Just prior to the start of the Orillia Perch Festival in April, a total of 1,000 perch were fitted with orange tags and released around Orillia.

Seven tagged perch were reeled in during the 23 days of the festival, one of the lowest returns in the 27-year history of the festival.

Two additional $500 tagged perch were brought ashore in recent days, bringing the 2008 total to four.

As of Tuesday morning, no one had reeled in one of the 75 tagged perch, one worth as much as $5,000.

Last year, during the festival, 16,000 perch were returned to the two lakes as part of the live release program.
