The New Tecumseth Streams Committee is doing a little spring cleaning this weekend and a little… well, sprucing up along area stream and rivers.

With the help of local Guides, Scouts and industry associates, the NTSC will be in Beeton, Tottenham and Alliston this Sat., May 3. Volunteers can still sign up to help in the event being held from 9 a.m. to noon. Along with cleaning up the local streams, volunteers will be planting seedlings.

In Alliston, clean ups will be at Spring Creek by Baxter Corporation, 89 Centre St. Access to the plant site is via the south parking lot at the corner of Centre and Beech Street. Volunteers will also be at Riverdale Park cleaning up the Boyne River.

The Beeton Creek is being spruced up in Northwood Park in Beeton, off of the 9th Line. Parking and access to the site is in the field on the north side of the 9th Line, just west of the bridge by the creek and east of Dayfoot Street.

In Tottenham, volunteers are meeting at Coventry Park to work on a section of the Beeton Creek. Access to plant site is from Industrial Road. Parking is available at the end of the road and the creek is a short walk from there. F&P Manufacturing employees and the public will be cleaning up a section of east Beeton Creek as well.

Lunches for the clean ups are being sponsored and served by the Lions Club in each community.

Local industry is also doing its part.

Honda of Canada Manufacturing is holding its annual associate planting and clean up day for the Spring Creek Park in Alliston.

In addition to the clean ups, the Beeton Girl Guides are painting storm drains with yellow fish. The fish are to remind people not to pollute the water going into the drains which feed directly back into the stream system.

Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes of boots. If possible, bring gloves, a shovel and a pail to hold the seedlings.

To volunteer for one of the clean ups or plantings, contact Silvia Pedrazzi at 705-435-1540 ext. 102 or e-mail silvia@nottawasaga.com.
