A 33-year-old man is facing several charges, including impaired driving, after crashing stolen car and stealing another one to hide from police Tuesday evening.

Nottawasaga OPP was called to a single-vehicle accident on the 4th Line of New Tecumseth near the 10th Sideroad. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot by the time officers arrived.

The car, a 1995 Plymouth Neon, was reported stolen from Tottenham earlier that day. Police searching for the man eventually spotted a suspicious vehicle on Mill Street in Tottenham, a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, which was also stolen. The driver was the same suspect from the initial accident.

The man, formerly from Tottenham, was charged with theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, impaired driving and operating a vehicle with more than .08 blood alcohol level.

Police had the area cordoned off from the public while they searched for the man.
