A fire at a campground east of Alliston Saturday morning killed five pets and burned a house trailer to the ground.

The New Tecumseth Fire Department was called to a Highway 89 campground at about 7 a.m., and found the trailer fully engulfed. The owner of the trailer was home at the time, and said her curtains caught fire. She sustained minor injuries.

The woman said she tried to save her pets - two dogs, a cat, and two birds - but was unable to get them out of the building. All five animals were killed.

New Tecumseth Fire Rescue is investigating the cause of the blaze.
