Orillia horticulture: The Orillia Horticultural Society meets April 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the Senior Citizens' Centre (56 West St.). The scheduled guest speaker is Kristen Ego McPhail. All welcome.

FridayFolk: The Orillia Folk Society presents Maria Dunn in concert on April 18 at Orillia's Swanmore Hall. Tickets are $15 and can be ordered at 259-0157 (organizers doubt there will be any left at the door). A pre-show snack ($4) is avalable at 6:45 p.m.

St. David's celebration: St. David's Church presents Trish Hause in concert on April 19, following a potluck dinner. The event starts at 6 p.m. and, while admission is free, donations to the church's mission work are welcome.  The event is part of St. David's 100th anniversary celebrations.

Ganaraska hikes: The Ganaraksa hiking club has released its spring schedule. On April 19, members will participate in an Earth Day cleanup. Meet behind Pizza Hut at 9:30 a.m. On April 26, a medium-difficulty hike is planned around Hardy Lake. Meet at Willow Court at 9 a.m. On May 1, a 'bike hike' along a rail trail from Collingwood to Meaford is planned. Meet at Willow Court at 8:30 a.m. Call Jack at 835-3389. On May 3, a short, easy hike  in the Copeland Forest is planned. Call Gay at 325-6001.

May 10 sees a hike in the Five Winds area. Meet at Willow Court at 9 a.m. or at the Coldwater IGA at 9:30 a.m. Call Ellen at 835-0197. On May 17, an easy to moderate hike is planned in the Pretty River Channel area. Meet at Willow Court at 9 a.m. Call Ron at 835-3073.

On May 24, a 'mystery hike' is scheduled. Meet at Willow Court at 9 a.m. On May 31, a short hike on the Ganaraska Trail is scheduled. As well, a longer, medium hike runs  from the Sugar Bush to the 11th Line on the same day. Meet at Willow Court at 9 a.m. for both hikes.

Motorcycle lovers: Motorcycle fans are invited to join the Orillia and District Motorcycle Enthusiasts group for rides every Sunday, starting April 20. Meet at the Tim Hortons at Memorial Avenue and the Highway 12 bypass before 10:30 a.m.

Jamboree: Musicians are invited to join the Reflections Band for a Sunday 'jamboree' at the  Warminster Legion on April 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4.

Ramara soccer: Registration for the upcoming Ramara Youth Soccer League is now subject to a late fee.  Visit the website for more information.

Yoga: Yoga classes are available at the Carden Recreation Centre. Call Nora at 833-2294 for more information.

Chicken dinner: The Couchiching Rebekah lodge hosts a chicken casserole dinner on April 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $6 per person and take-out is available by calling 329-2061.

Quilters guild: The Simcoe County Quilters' Guild meets April 24, at 1 p.m., at the ANAF Hall in Barrie.

Faith Fair: Numerous local churches are co-hosting a 'Faith Fair' at Orillia Square Mall on April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be entertainment as well as booths and literature.

Social Singles: The Orillia chapter of Social Singles of Simcoe County presents the first Orillia singles breakfast walk on April 26. The group meets for breakfast at the restaurant at the corners of Front and Mississaga streets and then walks along the harbourfront. Newcomers welcome. Call 794-2704 for more information.

Diabetes seminar: The Live Smart Diabetes Expo is scheduled for April 26 at Barrie Campus of Georgian College. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker Dr. Geoffry Bond will discuss how people with diabetes can understand their targets and how to meet them. He takes the stage at 12:45 p.m.

Spring tea: St. Andrews Presbyterian Church is the site of an Afternoon Spring Dessert Tea and Bake Sale on April 30, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door and everyone is welcome.
Ham supper: A ham and scalloped potato supper will be held at St. John's Anglican Church Matchedash on May 3.

There are two sittings, at 5 p.m. and at 6:15 p.m. and admission is $12 adults, $6 children age 12 and younger. For tickets, call Misty at 686-3193 or Betty at 686-7428.

Cellar Singers: The Cellar Singers perform on May 3 at St. Paul's United Church, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 adults, $12 students and are available by calling 325-3722.

Newcomers' meeting: The Orillia Newcomers' Club meets May 8, at 7 p.m., at the Doolittle Carson Reception House (57 Neywash St.). For more information, call Diane at 326-1285 or Jane at 326-3496.

Fun and games: The TIE Club hosts Fun and Games on May 26, at noon. Bring a bag lunch and a mug. The club is located at 56 West St. Call 327-1570 for more information.

Grandmothers' meeting: The Orillia chapter of Grandmothers to Grandmothers welcomes new members. Call Kathy at 835-1512.

Brechin Legion: The Brechin-Mara Legion offers a mixed darts league Fridays at 8 p.m. and a weekly meat roll on Saturdays at 4 p.m. Tuesdays see progressive euchre at 1:30 p.m. Call 426-7139.

Diabetes walk: Anyone with diabetes or pre-diabetes is invited to join a new walking program organized by Soldiers' Memorial Hospital's Diabetes Education Centre. Participants walk at Orillia Square Mall every Tuesday at 8 a.m. The program moves outdoors in the spring. Call 325-7611 for information.

Ready for baby: Another series of 'Getting Ready for Baby' classes are available for new parents. There are three sessions before the baby is born and then one meeting afterwards. For location, times and to register, call 1-877-721-7520.

River solstice: For the third straight year, the Rotary Club of Washago and Area  is celebrating the Summer Solstice. The club is proposing  a vigil for the evening of June 21, calling on residents to light candles or torches on their watecraft, properties or docks along the Severn and Black rivers.

Art festival: The first Art on the Severn juried art show and sale will be held in Washago July 18-20. The Washago Community Centre and an adjacent tent will host an expected 50 artists, organizers noted.

"Our goal is to establish an annual art festival that will bring the community together and attract visitors from around the province," said Louise Bongers.
