March break at library: The Orillia Public Library offers numerous programs for children over the March Break. For information about ‘Magic with Frank Clarkson’, the Reading Magic Show’ or ‘Creepy Reptiles’, call children’s services at 325-2559.

Newcomers’ club: The Orillia Newcomers’ Club meets March 13 at the Doolittle Carson Reception Home (57 Neywash St.). Guest speaker Bill Trivett will discuss Orillia’s church history.

All women who are new to the area are invited to attend at 7 p.m. For information about the club, call Diane at 326-1285.

Family roller skate: Local families are invited to stop by the Roller Skating Place at ODAS Park on Wed., March 12 for a skate. Hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $4 per person.

Woman of the year: The Orillia Business Women’s Association welcomes nominations for the Nelle Carter Woman of the Year honour. Nominees must live and work in the area and demonstrate excellence in business as well as community service. Call Betsy, at 835-3725, for a nomination kit.

The deadline is March 31. The awards dinner will be held May 14 at the Highwayman Inn.

Car seat safety: A free car seat safety clinic will be held at the Orillia Parks and Recreation Department building (30 James St. W) on March 13. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon and appointments are required. Call 325-9565.

Blood clinic: A blood donor clinic will be held March 13 at the Best Western Mariposa Inn, from noon to 7:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call 1-888-236-6283.

Ramara soccer: The Ramara Youth Soccer League holds registration (rep and house league) on March 13 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and March 15 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Both sessions are at the Ramara Centre and late fees apply after March 20. New players must bring birth certificates. Visit the website.

Brechin Legion: The Brechin-Mara Legion offers a mixed darts league Fridays at 8 p.m. and a weekly meat roll on Saturdays at 4 p.m. Tuesdays, see progressive euchre at 1:30 p.m. There is also karaoke on March 29, after the pot luck at 8 p.m.Call 426-7139.

Diabetes walk: Anyone with diabetes or pre-diabetes is invited to join a new walking program organized by Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital’s Diabetes Education Centre. Participants walk at Orillia Square Mall every Tuesday at 8 a.m. The program moves outdoors in the spring. Call 325-7611 for information.

Fish and chips: The Brechin-Mara Legion Ladies’ Auxilliary hosts a fish and chips dinner on March 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance, as there are no sales at the door. Call 484-5393.

Irish stew supper: St. Athanasius Anglican Church is the site of an Irish Stew Supper event on March 15, with sittings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Admission is $12.50 adults, $6 for children age six to 12. Pre-schoolers free. For tickets, call Grace at 327-0192.

Horticultural society: The Orillia Horticultural Society meets March 20, at 7:30 p.m., at the Senior Citizens Centre (56 West St.). Guest speaker Nancy Hinton will discuss growing and showing house plants. All welcome.

Ready for baby: Another series of ‘Getting Ready for Baby’ classes is available for new parents. There are three sessions before the baby is born and then one meeting afterwards. For location or times, call 1-877-721-7520.

Fine arts meeting: Shimera Dione is the scheduled guest speaker at the March 25 meeting of the Orillia Fine Arts Association at the Brian Orser Arena. Call Molly at 329-3563.

Grandmothers’ meeting: The Orillia chapter of Grandmothers to Grandmothers meets March 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at St. Paul’s United Church. New members welcome. For details, call Kathy at 835-1512.

Folk society show: The Orillia Folk Society presents James Gordon and Sons at Swanmore Hall on March 28. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Visit the website for more information.

Photo exhibit: The work of photographer Peter Stranks is exhibited in a show, Decisive Moments, underway at the Orillia Museum of Art and History. The museum is at 30 Peter St. South.

Rotary Wild Game Dinner: The Rotary Club of Washago and Area hosts its third-annual Rotary Wild Game Dinner on April 26, with sittings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The event is at the Washago Community Centre and supports local programs.

Tickets are $30 and are available from Rotary members, from Century 21 Sparkling Waters in Washago and from the Northland Motel and Restaurant. Call Mary at 689-3700.
