Chamber meeting: The Orillia District Chamber of Commerce holds its Business Achievement Award ceremony and annual general meeting on Feb. 28. The event starts with a networking session at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Best Western Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre.

Reflections Band: The Warminster Legion is the site of a dance on Feb. 29, from 8 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $4 and live music provided by The Reflections  Band.

Knights meeting: The Knights of Columbus hold their next meeting on March 3 at the hall. The executives meet at 6:30 p.m. and general meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. The Bernard Doyal Club meeting starts at 8:30 p.m.

Diabetes walk: Anyone with diabetes or pre-diabetes is invited to join a new walking program organized by Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital’s Diabetes Education Centre. Participants walk at Orillia Square Mall every Tuesday at 8 a.m. The program moves outdoors in the spring. Call 325-7611 for information.

Georgian speakers: Georgian College has released the roster of speakers for its winter series of free lectures at the Barrie campus’ Helen and Arch Brown Centre. On March 4 (10:30 a.m.), Toronto artist and animator Stephen Andrews is the scheduled speaker. His work was profiled in the winter 2007 edition of Canadian Art Magazine.

Hospital forum: The second community forum hosted by Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is scheduled for March 5, at 7 p.m., in the hospital’s ‘Poppy Room’. The event runs until 8:30 p.m.

MURF town hall: All local taxpayers are invited to voice their opinions on the planned $63-million recreation centre at a town hall meeting on March 6 at Twin Lakes Secondary School. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Meeting organizers will take residents’ concerns and suggestions to council at a later date.

Mediums night: The Orillia Star of Hope Spiritualist Church presents ‘All Mediums Night’ on March 7, at 7 p.m.The event is at the TIE Club, at 56 West St., and admission is $10.

World Day of Prayer: St. Paul’s United Church is the site of the World Day of Prayer event on March 7 at 10 a.m. Christians in 170 nations are joining in a prayer of solidarity with poverty-stricken Guyana. All are invited.

St. Patrick’s Day Social: All are invited to a St. Patrick’s Day Social event on March 8 at Guardian Angels Parish Hall. The festivities start with a social hour at 6 p.m. and there will be live entertainment, all with an Irish theme. For tickets or information, call Sue at 327-5119 or Ed at 327-0233.

Guardian Angels: The March meeting of the Guardian Angels Catholic Women’s League will be held on March 10, starting with Mass at 7 p.m. in the church hall.

Irish stew supper: St. Athanasius Anglican Church is the site of an Irish Stew Supper event on March 15, with sittings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Admission is $12.50 adults, $6 for children age six to 12. Pre-schoolers free. For tickets, call Grace at 327-0192.

Photo exhibit: The work of photographer Peter Stranks is exhibited in a show, Decisive Moments, underway at the Orillia Museum of Art and History. “Decisive Moments seeks to capture events that are defining experiences in our lives,” noted curator Sim Salata. The museum is located at 30 Peter St. South.

Rotary Wild Game Dinner: The Rotary Club of Washago and Area hosts its third-annual Rotary Wild Game Dinner on April 26, with sittings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The event is held at the Washago Community Centre and proceeds support local programs.
