Not Just a Quilt Show, a fundraising event hosted by the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO), will come to the Barrie Event Centre, Thursday, June 21, through Saturday, June 23.
Quilts crafts and handmade objects from across Ontario will be on display, and for sale at the three-day event, which celebrates quilting and other handmade work.

Not Just A Quilt Show also features a unique wearable art fashion show, an historical look at quilting and Women’s Institutes for the last 110 years, a variety of demonstration, a community information centre, and an opportunity to vote for your favourite quilt.

Participants can stay for the entire day, as food will be available in the Quilters Café.

Admission for the show is only $10, and every ticket receives an entry into the door prize draw for the opportunity to win some great prizes.

One exciting added feature to this year’s event is the presence of Rosalie Tennison – a certified quilt appraiser from the American Quilters Society. This is a chance to members of the public to have their own quilts appraised and learn valuable tips for their care.

Other demonstrations include ‘Making Feng Shui work for you right now, and a fashion show of hand-crafted items.

Funds raised at Not Just A Quilt Show, will help the FWIO continue to give back to communities in Simcoe County, and right across the province.

Recent projects like the ROSE (Rural Ontario Sharing Education) Program, and the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa, have been keeping the FWIO’s 7,000 members active and involved in local events.

The FWIO has played a role in influencing changes in provincial laws and practices, including mandatory stopping for school buses with flashing lights, the installation of railway crossing signs and the pasteurization of milk.

Today, FWIO continues to work at strengthening families and local communities.

The Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario is a not-for-profit charitable organization with affiliates around the world, working for and with rural and urban women and their families.

Through its network of branches, the organization offers high-quality education and support programs and services, advocate for social and economic change, and work towards personal growth and empowerment of all women.
