Since that millennium donation, Twin Lakes has stood behind the program with their annual donation from the proceeds of the Senior Girls Flag Football Team's fundraising auction that is supported by "A Touch Of Class" Auction Company. Student Jessica Gowanlock took the lead in organizing this impressive event. Students, teachers and the business community donate wonderful items for the students and staff to bid on.
Recently, Charlene Taylor, Executive Director, visited the school to accept a donation of close to $5,000 from the proceeds of this year's auction. This has been an amazing commitment from TLSS and brings the total donation to $23,000 over the last six years. This year half the donation will be used to support the education fund. Residents may apply for a grant of up to $1,000 for assistance with post secondary tuition costs.
The remaining funds will be used to support the activities of our weekly group and monthly supper club. Residents, both past and present, receive support with life skills such as cooking, budgeting, building healthy lifestyles and healthy relationships.
Couchiching Jubilee House provides a safe place for women and their children to live for up to one year while assisting them to improve the quality of their lives by providing a variety of supports.
Couchiching Jubilee House is very unique; it is supported by Faith Works (Anglican Church), the local ecumenical community, local business/organizations and individual donations. This program does not receive government funding.
The women who reside at Couchiching Jubilee House are each on their own personal journey, have their own goals for a better future.
