Five bands, two solo artists and a DJ with more than a touch of soul headline the second annual Suncrash music festival this weekend.
Proceeds from the Aug. 2 concert and camp-out at the Moreland family farm will again go to support Green Haven Shelter for Women, says organizer Noah Moreland.
“I’ve always been a believer that when you get a whole bunch of people together, you can do a lot of good,” Moreland said. “It’s important to get young kids engaged in the community they live in. One way to do that is through music.”
The inaugural festival, held last August, drew 250 people and showcased local bands, solo performers and a DJ.
“For what we were expecting, it was pretty close to what our goals were,” he said. “We were aiming for about 300 people.”
Emerging indie-rock band the Golden Dogs - featuring guitarist and hometown native Neil Quin - are among those included on the roster of acts booked for this year’s show.
Others on tap include Spiral Beach, the Sixty-Eights, the Weybourne Project, Sadie May Crash, Laganza, Major Grange, and the Doug Trucker Band.
DJ Dan Reid is also on the bill.
“The Golden Dogs have been really big on the college scene around Ontario and have done the South by Southwest Festival in Texas,” Moreland added.
A side stage featuring brief sets by musically inclined concertgoers is also planned.
“That (schedule) has already been filled up,” he said. “It opens it up to folks who don’t want to be on the big loud stage. It’s more for laid back acoustic stuff.”
Guests are invited to erect tents onsite, in a lush field located between forested areas.
Moreland said he wants to assure participants the festival is “no dash-together” event.
Private security will be on site, while concertgoers can expect access to rest stations and shuttle bus service.
The farm is located at 2520 Bass Lake Sideroad E.
Gates open at noon, with the first band beginning at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $30 and are available at True North Music.
Moreland is encouraging carpooling, as parking is limited.
