There’s a lot of children who’ll be heading to camp this summer, thanks to donations to the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
The annual Strong Kids Campaign has wrapped up with $291,000 raised. That sends approximately 275 children to camp for a week.
The Strong Kids Campaign raises money for families with limited finances, and sends children to camp, supports children in day care and in other YMCA programs.
“The sad fact is there are many families in our community that are dealing with struggles like job loss, divorce or overcoming addictions,” said CEO Tom Coon.
“It is during these difficult situations when these families, kids especially, can benefit from the inclusive programs and warm environment the Y provides.”
A nine-year-old girl named Anna, for example, will be going to Camp Kitchikewana in August as a result of the campaign. Her parents could only afford half the cost to send her to camp, but she’ll be there, making new friends and experiencing the outdoors.
Coon thanks all who contributed to the campaign this year. Last year, $275,000 was raised during the campaign. To make a donation, click the link provided.
