The Varsity Stallions fell 20-14 to the Eagles in Etobicoke.

The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football lost a controversial 20-14 decision to the Etobicoke Eagles.

Both teams entered the game undefeated with huge playoff implications.

With the Stallions leading 7-6 after a Kyle Graves touchdown run, the Eagles had the ball buried in their own end with 15 seconds left in the first half.

A 50-yard touchdown pass followed a lengthy run to midfield. This produced a 12-7 Eagles lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Stallions had an 80-yard touchdown run called back on a questionable holding call.

With five minutes left on the clock, the Stallions offence took the ball, after the defense held Etobicoke in check the whole second half.

A second touchdown run was called back on another holding call.

The Stallions kept driving and fullback Brett Haenni plowed into the end zone to give the Stallions a 14-13 lead.

With less than two minutes on the clock, the Eagles managed to drive down the field deep into Stallions territory.

With eight seconds left, the Eagles caught a touchdown pass that appeared to be out of bounds through the back of the end zone.

The lack of a line at the back of the end zone led the referees to award the Eagles a touchdown and the victory 20-14.

Linebackers Taylor Shadgett and Andy Algar played tremendous games for the Stallion defensive corps.

Shadgett had nine total tackles and Algar had eight tackles.  Cornerbacks Ed Shrubsole and Mike Minter had interceptions for the Stallions secondary.

Fullback Brett Haenni was the leading rusher with 81 yards and Colin Carswell led the receivers with 57 yards.

The 4-1 Stallions’ next game is July 5 in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team dropped to 3-2 on the season with a 38-10 loss to the Burlington Stampeders.

Jamie Cook completed a touchdown pass to Ryan Ferguson for the lone Stallions touchdown.

Defensive Backs Shelby Minns and Matt Khoob had interceptions for the Stallions defense.

The top Stallion players were offensive linemen Terry Hart and Jake Piotrowski.

Both players played the whole game on offence much of the game on defence, doing a tremendous job on both sides of the ball. The Stallions next game is June 28 in London.
