Junior Stallion Lucas Durdin, 22, had a strong game against York-Simcoe.

The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football team improved its record to 2-0 with a hard-fought 14-7 victory over a tough Brampton Bulldogs squad in recent regular season action.

The Stallions went into the half with a 14-0 lead on rushing touchdowns by quarterback Kyle Graves and fullback Brett Haenni. The Stallion defensive unit held the Bulldogs to seven points and came up with a big fourth quarter stop with three minutes remaining.

The Stallions offensive line went to work, opening holes for Haenni and tailback Mike Rostance, as the offence successfully moved the ball for the final three minutes to clinch the victory.

Rostance led the offence with 135 yards rushing.  Haenni added 82 yards and Graves contributed 44 yards.

Linebacker Taylor Shadgett played a very physical game, logging 11 tackles and a sack. Defensive Back Kyle Plummer had 6.5 tackles, including the third-down stop that forced the Bulldogs to punt with three minutes remaining.

The Stallions next game is June 7 at 6 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex against the Newmarket Storm.

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity Football team improved its record to 2-0 with a 20-14 victory over the York-Simcoe Bucs.

The Stallions controlled the game from start to finish, building a 20-0 lead before holding on for the victory. Quarterback Jamie Cook rushed for a touchdown and threw the game-winning touchdown pass to slotback Sam Robertson.

Tailback Cameron Trace also rushed for a major.  The key drive took place in the first half, when the Stallions drove 107 yards with three minutes remaining in the half to open the scoring.

Defensively, Linebacker Lucas Durdin had a quarterback sack and punished the Bucs running backs all day.

The Stallions next game is June 8 in Burlington against the Stampeders.
