ODCVI Blues junior boys competitor Elliott Carter stains to clear the high jump bar at the North Simcoe Zone Track and Field Championships, held May 14 in Midland. Carter cleared 1.65 metres.

The ODCVI Blues posted a second-place finish in the team standings at the North Simcoe Zone Track and Field Championships, held Wednesday at St. Theresa’s High School in Midland.

The host St. Theresa’s Thunder won the team title with 590 total points, while ODCVI placed second with 368 points.

The Park Street Trojans finished fourth with 313 points, while Patrick Fogarty finished in seventh place with 157 points. Twin Lakes Secondary captured 12th place with 27 points.

Athletes from all three Orillia high schools reached the medal podium during the one-day event, held under wet, cool conditions.

Numerous ODCVI athletes placed first in their various events, including: Ali Archer (midget girls’ high jump), Rebecca Bouwhius (junior girls discus), Jenna Freeman (midget girls’ 800-metre run and 400-metre dash), Marlee Freeman (senior girls’ 800-metre run and 400-metre low hurdles), Emma Glasgow (senior girls javelin), Katie Jones (junior girls’ 100 and 200-metre dash), Erin MacFadyen (junior girls’ 3,000-metre run), Colton Morrison (junior boys’ discus and javelin), Ryan Shean (midget boys’ 400-metre dash), Kurtus Thompson (junior boys’ 100 and 200-metre dash) and Melissa White (midget girls’ discus).

The Park Street Trojans picked up first-place finishes from Taylor Bull (in the midget girls’ 80- and 300-metre low hurdles), Nathan Dix (midget boys’ 100-metre low hurdles), Angela Easby (senior girls 1,500-metre run), Dane Edwards (senior boys’ 110-metre low hurdles), Rebecca Goodier (junior girls’ shot put), Shane Martin (senior boys’ 3,000-metre run), Brent Roubos (senior shot put, discus) and Taylor Walters (junior girls’ high jump). The Trojans midget boys’ and junior girls’ relay teams also finished first in their 4x100-metre events.

Jen Corrick won double gold for the Patrick Fogarty Flames, in the open girls’ 1,500-metre steeplechase and senior girls’ 3,000-metre run.

Tommy Shoniker won the junior boys’ 100-metre low hurdles, while Haley Warren finished first in the senior girls’ 100-metre dash and the 100-metre low hurdles.
